Open your heart…and your wallet

January 13th, 2010

If you are like me last night you were glued to your television and no it was not for American Idol, it was watching the breaking news on the devastation in Haiti.

I felt compelled to help in some way, shape or form. To see this nation or any nation suffering suddenly makes the problems in our own lives seem trivial.

While I cannot physically travel there to assist, there are things that we all can do to help. We can donate and help organisations that can be there in the physical form to help.

It’s easy to think “why should I care? I don’t have family or friends there” but what if it had been a country that you had loved ones in? You would be doing everything you can to help. Fact is there are millions that do have loved ones and family in Haiti and they need our help and our money.

I’ve donated via the Red Cross website and I urge you to do the same. You can donate at www.redcross.org

Or if you are on twitter you may have seen the RT to donate $5: text YELE to 501501 and $5 will be donated. Keep in mind this is for the United States.

In Canada you can donate by texting HAITI to 45678. Depending on your service provider you can donate $5 or $10.

You can also donate by visiting Wyclef Jeans website for his YELE HAITI organisation: www.yele.org

If there’s any other sites or links that you would like me to share let me know. Or if there are any fundraising initiatives going on in the Toronto area let me know and I will post it.

In Toronto, come out and support on January 28, 2010. Here are the details:
