Are you living?
“Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity. They seem to be more afraid of life than death.”
I’m well aware that if I pose the question “are you living?” some people will look at me like I’ve lost the last part of my mind. Instead of thinking of it quite literally try this instead – I know that you are alive because you are breathing and functioning as a normal human being should. However, are you living is a totally different concept.
It bothers me to no end when I ask someone how they’re doing and their response is “oh I’m surviving.” Why would you just want to survive? Why not embrace life and live to your full potential?
In my opinion there are a few reasons why people haven’t embraced life, but where there’s a will there’s a way!
Fear
It’s scary to try something new we all can acknowledge and accept that fact. It’s even more frightening when trying something new means going out on a limb. It can be financially, emotionally or even career wise. The hardest part is taking that first step to improving your life. You’ll see once that first few steps are behind you the fear will be too!
Positivity
I say it all the time “positive thoughts breed positive actions.” We all can’t be perfect Patty, but there’s no harm in trying to live a more positive lifestyle. Focusing on the negative only brings back negative energy to you. So if you want good things, start thinking about them. Stop worrying about what you can’t control!
Responsibility
Before you think I’m telling you to leave the kids unfed, quit your job and follow your dreams-pause. As adults we all know that life can become quite routine between work, kids, cooking and cleaning our lives have become quite mundane. There are ways to fix this and it’s quite simple. Find something you love doing and do it for 15 minutes a day. If it’s a bubble bath after the kids have gone to bed or if you’re sporty like me play a sport once a week on a team. It’s a great way to meet other adults and stay active plus have some well deserved “me” time. Who knows maybe doing something like writing for 15 minutes a day could turn into a passion or a new career.
The bottom line is this- there are way too many of us unhappy with our lives, and time is ticking. Do you want to look back at your life with regret because you never paused to think about what you truly want your life to be like?
Take some time to write down what your goals are for the present and the future. It’s never to late to start living the life you want…now.

Ps. I’ve had a lot of people asking me for advice when it comes to writing, life, parenting and self esteem. I love answering the emails so keep them coming!
