NANOWRIMO VIRGIN

October 26th, 2010

We are a mere five days away before the clock strikes midnight and nanowrimo 2010 begins. For those who are asking nanowrimo stands for National Novel Writing Month and although the name says national people participate from all around the world.

I cant help but feel a plethora of emotions as I prepare for the challenge and oh what a challenge it will be. The requirements seem simple enough – you have thirty days to complete a novel with fifty thousand words. For writers it really does prove to be the ultimate challenge as we battle writers block, time and the urge to edit.

Yet it is compelling to write freely without having to worry about editing, the flow of your novel or even the plot. The freedom is like a breath of fresh air to be able to put pen to paper or finger to key and let your ideas flow freely.

So am I nervous? Very. I worry the most about finding the time to write between having a busy six year old, a newborn as well as other writing projects nanowrimo seems daunting to say the very least.

I have started planning and plotting although I have not started my actual story yet. After all that would be cheating and if I plan to complete this challenge I will do it like the rest of you, starting fresh on November 1st at midnight.

I would be lying if I said I hadn’t thought about story lines or the genre but truthfully I haven’t quite decided on what I am going to go with. That is a decision I will leave to the very last minute.

I have decided to blog about my experience because I’m quite optimistic that it will be a great learning opportunity as well an opportunity for growth as a writer.

So to my readers out there are any of you competing? Have you started thinking about your novel or started writing already? Is it your first year? Let me know because I would love to hear from you.

As for this nano virgin I’m patiently counting down until the challenge begins.

xoxo

    Hi Elle,
I found you on Twitter when you posted about NaNoWriMo. This is my first NaNo attempt and I know it will be a HUGE challenge for me.
I actually wrote a post about it on my WordPress blog, so I’m hoping someone will tell me about their experience doing NaNo.
So far I only have three buddies but you can find me under the name Polilla-Lynn if you want to buddy up. :)
    I wish you much success.
