NaNoWriMo Day One

November 2nd, 2010

Well it’s now 1:25 am so I believe that it is now safe to say that I have successfully survived my first day of NaNoWriMo. Was it hard? Very much so. I ended the day with just over 2200 words and I must admit that I am pretty proud of myself. I thought that I would have at least done 5000 words today but under the circumstances I will take 2000.

The key to my success I think will be learning to find time to write when I can focus for a long period of time and write without interruption. I imagine that it will prove to be quite the challenge though with a newborn and a 6 year old. Between cooking and swimming lessons and getting the princess to and from school my writing had a get in where you fit in type of attitude today.

So far I have set my opening scene as well as some character building scenes for my main character. I have the plot in my head and I imagine that it will be quite the story once I really get going. I find myself consumed with thoughts and scenes that I want to write. Can I really be missing my characters already when I’m not with them? Geez that didn’t take long!

Lets hope that the kids co-operate today so that I can get some real ground covered for day two.

So to my fellow wrimo’s how was your first day? Let me know!

xoxo

Day 1 was great, but I’m like you, balancing it with the kids and every other thing I have to do in the real world. They are older, 11 and 8, so homework time is my writing time, and that works out pretty good. After they are in bed, I write again. This seems to work for me…for now.

I completely agree. My oldest is six, so while she’s at school I try to write while the baby is napping. Today that didnt work out too well though. I guess I will need to write when they go to bed tonight. Keep me updated on your progress!
