Company Profile: Starstruck Productions
In 2002 Bryan Brown established Starstruck Productions, now eight years later the company is at the forefront of Toronto’s entertainment scene.
Every prosperous company has to have a beginning, for Starstruck their beginning was in the music industry. Taking their first steps in the Canadian independent music scene allowed the company to have a direct hand in everything from working with new artists and gaining valuable public relations experience to being in studio and learning the technical background to recording demo’s and recordings.
It was through connections gained in the music industry that ultimately led to the company’s 2004 partnership with Lady Luck Entertainment. This was yet another opportunity to further extend the company. Thus the birth of their club and promotion division began. Luckily they had one of Toronto’s legendary event companies to guide them. The experience and knowledge gained allowed Starstruck to launch their first event called Jonesin’. The Jonesin’ event was a combined effort between Starstruck and MStar Entertainment.
Unfortunately, a mere four years later in 2008 the two companies parted ways citing creative differences. The split however proved to be the greatest turning point for the company. On the heels of separating from MStar Entertainment Starstruck launched Zodiac. Unbeknownst to them this was to be so much more than their first solo event since conception. Zodiac proved to be the flag ship event for Starstruck and it’s no wonder why. With the hottest and most in demand deejays being featured the party quickly gained success. Over the years Zodiac has featured some of Toronto’s most talented deejays including Max B, Boogieman, Biggz, and P Plus. Even the world renowned soca deejay Dr Jay, and Spexx of the Riddim Track on Flow 935 have been featured to add a Caribbean flair. As for the host, it is none other than one of the cities funniest comedians – Jay Martin. Zodiac brings a classy yet mature and fun atmosphere for party goers. The extra special touch is Starstruck only throws the Zodiac party for certain zodiac signs every year; this rare trait has made it the premier event to celebrate your birthday at.
With the success of Zodiac growing to grand proportions, it only made sense for Starstruck to expand their horizons in the promotion scene. There are now two other events that have been launched, the first being Rock Steady. The Rock Steady event caters to the lovers of conscious reggae and lovers’ rock. The event prides itself on staying true to the solid foundation that reggae was built upon. The second event is called Fist Pump which is strictly high energy. The music ranges from Top 40 to house and even includes booty music. The catch? It fuses the new high energy with the old school classics that party goers know and love.
Earlier this year the company expanded once again, and this time it was into modelling. The launch of The Star Face Project shows the diversity and class of six women. These six women are the face of the Starstruck Company and their events. Although the year is not yet over, the recognition and success of the Star Face models have been growing rapidly.
So what’s next for the company that seems to have it all? In 2011 the company will return to their origin – the music business. They will be launching the first artist off their brand new label Star Music. A talented rhythm and blues singer by the name of Shannel S.
When asked about the company’s main goal, the owner Mr. Bryan Brown had this to say,
“Starstruck’s main goal is to be Toronto’s leading promotions company. We want to revolutionize the world of entertainment and not only meet but exceed the entertainment needs for the city and people of Toronto. We aspire to keep things exciting, diverse, and most importantly original.”
The path along the way surely wasn’t easy, however it is that same path that has made the success that they have achieved so much sweeter. One thing is known for sure, we still have a lot more in store to come from Mr. Brown and his associates at Starstruck Productions so keep your ear to the ground and your eyes to the sky. Just be careful not to get too Starstruck.
