This Weeks Read: Ron Carlson Writes a Story

February 7th, 2011

Over the past few weeks I have been reading this novel called Ron Carlson Writes a Story. Had it not been one of the reading requirements for my class I highly doubt that I would have taken the time out to read it but boy am I ever glad I have.

The novel is written by author Ron Carlson and takes you through the writing process from beginning to end. He uses his own short story The Governor’s Ball as a guideline throughout. Carlson covers everything from the initial story idea to dialogue and how to create a scene. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it provides useful insight to those penning a novel or short story.

It’s a fairly short read and even includes some writing exercises inside.

Carlson is the author of eight novels and teaches a graduate program at the University of California.

My suggestion to you is to get your hands on a copy it’s not expensive at all; you can get it for under $15 Canadian.

Happy Reading!

xoxo
