A Sexy Valentine’s Day Interview: Erotica Writer Lily
Happy Valentine’s Day!
As you know I love supporting my fellow writers and love bringing attention to work that may otherwise be unrecognised. With this being said I had the opportunity to interview a very talented writer by the name of Lily. Her forte is erotica and she’s been ever so kind to give us some insight into her world.
So sit back, get comfy and enjoy this sexy interview!
This is a two-part answer. I “fell” into some magazines that were stashed in my father’s bedroom closet at a very young age. I did not, however, care to look at the photos. Instead I read the stories and thought to myself, “This is so ordinary. These storytellers have no imagination!” and figured I would write my own story. So I started with some innocent tales.
Years later, I met a wonderful man who unleashed my sexual persona. He wrote me a sexy, detailed email and – he doesn’t know this – I giggled at it. I loved his effort but something was lacking. He asked for an email in return and I wrote, “Love In This Club”. With much hesitation, I sent it to him and he was, needless to say, impressed. He persuaded me to go public. But, being a single mom with two small children, time was always an issue and my erotica writing was put on the back burner. Fast forward a few years to Twitter where the ever fabulous @ReadBeanPie suggested I share my stories on his blog. Eventually, I had to start a blog of my own.
Are there any plans to turn your short stories into a novel any time soon?
Depends on your definition of “soon”. I’ve fantasized about publishing a novel since I discovered my love of Harlequin [novels] shortly after that magazine scenario. But yes, I will definitely have a novel out sooner rather than later.
Where do you get the inspiration from in your stories?
It’s amazing where inspiration tends to stem from. I will read a quote, have a conversation with someone, read a Twitter status and my imagination runs with it.
I do have to give credit where credit is due and say that most times, my inspiration comes from the man who happens to be the “Michael” in my life. Which brings me to the answer of the next question….
Are any of your characters based upon a real life person?
Every woman has some “Savannah” in her and every man is a real-life “Michael”. I believe we need to tap into our sensuality and allow what feels really good to surface and just be. “Michael” was definitely based on a real life person.
Some have said that erotica is the “porn” of the writing industry. How do you feel about that statement?
I wouldn’t necessarily call it the “porn” of writing but there is a thin line between porn and erotica. I’ve been stuck many times wondering whether to use a certain expletive for that reason. There’s only so many swear words and descriptive [words] that I could use before it’s considered “smut”. It can be challenging at times.
Erotica is the art of love. Porn is the action involved. And, to be completely honest, doesn’t all lovemaking start as erotica and end as porn?
Do you think you will venture into any other styles of writing
I’ve started a new blog www.mizzlovelippz.com for the purpose of just keeping my writing semi-regular. I write whenever I feel passionate about something that happens in real life. But I find it’s not as seamless as my erotica. It’s just me being me, whereas being “Savannah” requires mind-play and word-play. Erotica is my heart. I think I’ll stick to it until my well runs dry.
With the world becoming more acceptable of open sexuality, do you think this genre will become more popular?
Absolutely. It’s amazing the number of “closet freaks” that are out there. It still boggles my mind when I receive emails/messages from people I didn’t ever expect to read my stories telling me how much they love my writing. I was ignorant myself until I arrived on this social media scene and found so many writers like myself. Like I mentioned before, it’s been somewhat taboo but eventually it will come to a broader light and this excites me.
What is your cure for writers block?
In the past, I used to just give myself a break from writing but that’s just like a person on a diet taking a break from eating healthy. It’s that much more difficult to get back on track. Now, I write whatever comes to mind. I’ll read articles, magazines, the news, my favourite bloggers. I also keep a moleskin with me at all times for random thoughts and ideas. If anyone ever got a hold of that moleskine…
Today is Valentines Day. Can you tell us what your perfect Valentine’s Day would be?
I’ve always been a romantic at heart. I still make my own Valentine’s cards for my lover. My ultimate Valentine’s Day would consist of waking up with my loved one, making breakfast while drinking mimosas, hanging out in our boxers all day, watching my lover watch his favourite sport on TV while I read or wrote sitting by his side, making love whenever we pleased and taking a bubble bath together at the end of our day.
But we don’t need February 14 to make this happen.
“I’ll give you my love any time of year baby.” ~ Savannah
